Strangers: A Vlog
If you don't want to hear the word "um..." fifty times in two minutes then this video isn't for you. Also, I'm not sure why my face looks like that before you hit the play button.

GirrrrL. Lol... I was SO excited to see you in a vlog, I went & refilled my coffee, & got all comfy to watch it! First off... YOU are SOOOO adorable. SERIOUSLY you are flippn adorable & SUPER DUPER pretty, AND you don't say "uhmmmm" half as many times as I do.) Now that we got the important stuff out of the way.... Lol) I really want to squeeze little bugs cheekies, whoopsy wrong post to make that comment with. Lol)
This is such a great topic. I have personally had such a hard time w/ this. I HATE confrontation, & it's really hard for me to speak up sometimes (not to Greg though. Lol) Anywhoooo... just a couple weeks ago a woman at the grocery store touched Jax hand. Inside I was freaking the hell out. I didn't say anything either, & as soon as we turned the corner I bathed him in anti-bacterial gel. I was also mad at myself for not saying... "Listen lady, I know my boy is irresistibly CUTE, but bitch please! Get your mugs off of him before I have to whoop some booty!!!" That's what I said in my crazy head... but yah no. Nothing. I too am looking forward any helpful advice on this one. Why do we all care so much what strangers think? It really is pretty darn silly!
My friend on a more serious note... You are such an A-mazing, caring, sweet mommy! The love you have for that little angel face is such a purely BEAUTIFUL thing. Being a mama looks damn good on you my friend. SO happy to have met ya! Have the happiest Mama's Day Sean! Hope you get spoiled rotten!
XOXO
P/S Sorry for my NOVEL comment)
So, I'm sorry. I had to watch the video twice. All I could do was look at Natalie and smile. It was so nice to "actually see" her. And I loved the vlog.
And U don't know how to answer your question. Luckily, I'm so busy with 3 people usually leave me alone lol.
First, it was very nice to watch your video!
Second, I totally understand you! I have a 3 months old son and I hate when people touch him with their dirty hands. I usually ask my friends to wash their hands when they want to play with him, but I don't know how to politely tell strangers not to touch him. I know they want to be nice and I don't want to be rude, but I want to protect my child's health.
Oh my God your accent is just amazing (sorry I just really like American accents, being around English accents is pretty boring). & wow Natalie is one wriggly baby! She's so adorable.
Obviously I can't really comment on this because I am definitely not a mum! But I get how it must be weird for complete strangers to be touching Natalie. It must have been about two years ago and I was taking these 3 kids to the corner shop, and this old lady like patted the youngest kids head and I was just like, "WOAH what the fuck", but then I'm not his mum so I have no say on who got to pat Josh's head! So I didn't say anything, I just left it. But seriously, it's just weird. I don't actually know why strangers would even do that. If I had a kid and a stranger went to hold their hand or whatever, I'd do some serious karate moves on them. Maybe try that? Ha, just kidding. It's always an option though.
Hope you figure something out!
(and I admire you for doing a vlog, I'm way too shy to ever do one)
I don't have any advice because we too struggle with this! I'm not sure if she's still in an infant carrier - I do know they have a "stop sign" you can hang from the handle (http://www.mytinyhands.com/shopping/store.htm)... I think that would be more than enough to stop someone without actually saying something - just make sure it's visible. if she's out of the carrier (like Brycen is), I got nothing :)
Ah, what a clever idea! I might feel a little weird posting a sign on my baby but I love the concept. Thanks for sharing that with me Jilean. Something to consider for sure.
First, love the vlog idea! And oh my god this topic really fires me up because it happened to me ALL the time when Leah was little. Strangers touching her and also distant family members or friends of friends that wanted to HOLD her! It made me sick inside but I was never bold enough to say what I wanted (NO get the hell away from my baby!!!!!) I would always get so mad at myself for never saying anything! I am hoping with my second baby I will be more assertive, I think I have developed a tougher skin being a mom for 2 years :) I will let you know if I come up with any good tips!
cute Vlog! It's so hard to yell at strangers, I have no idea why?? when someone goes to touch a baby (our precious lil peanuts that are highly susceptible to stranger germs!) when a hand goes toward them, whip out the old antibacterial faster than they can blink and make them sanitize, they'll probably be too lazy and walk away. Or just say please don't touch because she gets sick very easily. I know...I know it's easier said than done sometimes.
WHat a cute Vlog! I have never done one and you inspired me. In terms of your question, it is hard to say something when it is the first time it has happened. I did in fact had it happen several times and I try my best to just get out of the situation whether leaving whoever it is that is trying to touch my baby. It is so hard though with people who insist that touching the baby is okay! It is also hard for me, personally, to say something. I need to get more assertive! Happy First Mom Day!
It is hard to speak up, but you are protecting your baby so you have to do whatever is necessary! I don't understand why people think its ok to touch other people's babies!!
BTW, you are beautiful
I can't believe I didn't see this video until now! I don't have any advice since I learn about all this stuff just from reading your blog (pre-mommy training for me! lol) but I will say that I litterally got up and turned down the tv in my office so I could watch this instead. Well done and you didn't say um to many times at all. But your comment about that made me laugh. :)
Thanks Michelle! Coming from someone with experience working in front of the camera, your comment means a lot to me. :)
