Planning Ahead
Finally being productive, Saturday we went to Target to register for baby items. I have to say that I am glad I have two sisters who have two kids each. It's given me experience and I have people to turn to for all my baby questions. Target was helpful and gave us a little package at guest services when we registered with all sorts of coupons, samples and a list of necessities to register for. That being said, no list or person can fully prepare you for the confusing world of baby registry. The terminology used is puzzling. Sleep 'n play, sheet savers, receiving blankets. Seems like a no brainer to anyone who knows what the items are but for first time moms this is so foreign. Why not just call them pajamas, waterproof mattress thingys and flannel blankets? It just makes it that much easier. There are also items that you're just not sure about. Do I really need a nursing pillow? And items you have no idea how many to register for? Bottles, onesys, pacifiers. My sisters told me not to put a lot of clothes on there since that is a very popular shower gift anyway. Speaking of baby showers, I need to have mine soon. My friend from work is going to help me plan it along with my sister, but she's really disorganized and procrastinates more than I do so I'm not too sure how much help she'll be (my sister, not my friend). It has to be sometime soon because my friend will be gone for two weeks in mid October and by November I am going to be so big and probably not very friendly. I want to be comfortable enough to open presents and organize everything and have it ready for baby. I know I have time but I always put things off until the last minute and then scramble to get it together. This is something I don't want to rush.

I laughed at "waterproof mattress thingy." Because 3 (well, soon to be 3) girls later I still call them mattress pads.
I hope you had some fun doing your registry. I always enjoy scanning things, sometimes I get carried away.
Yes, I didn't put any clothes on my registry. You get so many clothes at the shower and even after the baby is born it's overwhelming. You want to make sure people get you the big/important stuff for the shower like a stroller, car seat, swing, etc.
I had an early shower too. Best decision ever!
yay for starting your registry. that just makes you one step closer to your little girl being here!!
So glad you got registered! I love Target, they have tons of adorable baby stuff!
Thanks for your sweet comment. You will learn once your little one gets here that planning ahead (especially meals) will save you so much time and energy. Trying to make grocery store trips with the little one is...well, a nightmare. I get it all down to a weekly trip usually on Sunday afternoon where daddy can have some daddy-daughter time, and I can have peace at the store! HAHA
I am with you on the misleading name thing! I'm not a mommy-to-be (obviously), but I've had lots of friends and family having babies lately and every time I print off a registry, I have to actually go FIND the item in its designated aisle until I figure out what it is. Then I try and decide if I want to buy it or not. I do NOT look forward to the day when (IF) I may need to baby shop. Best of luck, lady! :)
I can only imagine how tough it would be to register for baby. The baby aisle has so many cute things I would go nutso :)
I am going through the same thing, and it is difficult to get a baby registry going! (I'm also registering at Target, amazing stuff! The reviews save me.)
And about the nursing pillow, (or a bobbie, or however its spelled), you should definitely register for that one! I have a friend who used hers even before her baby girl got here just because it was comfortable to sit with. Now it's used allllllllll the time for whatever baby reason.
Good luck on planning your shower! <3
I do agree that baby items have the strangest names when they could be so simple. Since I'm days away from my baby arriving, I'm hoping I guessed that right amount of everything I'd need. Good luck planning the shower! Mine was so much fun.
I always give diapers as a baby shower gift. Even though they're boring, I know everyone needs them. I got so many hand me downs from friends and family that I ended up taking back almost all the baby clothes I got. What can I say, I am very practical.
Keep going slow ... no need to rush the good things :) I am Following you now from the hop. Hope you can stop by and return the favor soon :) http://www.shaunanosler.blogspot.com/
Ha ha ha ha. I love this. I had a friend who registered for lip gloss and some body lotion. I thought that was kind of funny. Obviously for the baby, right?
Aaah how exciting!! This makes me all excited to have a baby someday! And sorta nervous, I never thought about how confusing it could be to try to figure out what your baby will need. Guess I'll be taking friends that have had babies along to register! :)
Ahh registering is so much fun...well im not gonna lie I actuallt cried the when I registered bc I was so overwhelmed lol!
It all works out..and the best advice I got was all your baby needs in the beginning is boobs and diapers :)
YES on the nursing pillow!
Yeah after D was born Cody and I were like what the heck were we thinking when we registered? Lol. We didn't have a clue!! Oh and I'm sure you're probably getting more suggestions than you need but some things I found amazing- nursing pillow (At first I was like I so don't need that, it saved my nipples because I could get him in a comfortable position and keep him that way where as throw pillows and junk always went flat) and one of those play mats with the arches- LIFESAVER for when you'd like to get something done, lol. Oh and we put clothes on our registery and it didn't matter, nobody bought them anyway, haha!
I'll never forget registering at Babies R Us. I started having heat flashes and my vision started blurring...needless to say I ended up rushing out just to sit in my car with AC blasting...I did it all online from then on. lol. hehe. I agree that names are weird for things! So exciting that your shower is coming up though. It'll be fun to get the goodies you need for your baby!!
Oh man, all the baby-related stuff makes my brain hurt! I hope you manage to figure everything out eventually! :)
